The first
child of Elise and Bobby, Marie Evelyn Jessie, was born on
4th June 1889. A true twentieth century woman, she held down
a Government job from she was in her 20s.
Evelyn met
the love of her life, Joe Coombs, when he was stationed here
with his regiment, the Argyll and Southerland Highlanders.
Unfortunately poor Joe was killed in battle and Evelyn never
married.
Evelyn
enjoyed socialising and, as a young woman, often accompanied
her father to public events. She had many friends with whom
she would visit and she attended a variety of social events.
Unfortunately, she also had firm favourites in each branch
of the family. These pets were allowed to get away with
anything while their siblings watched in envy! One wonders
what would have happened if she had had children of her own.
Evelyn died
of a stroke on 31st, August 1972. |
